Three-dimensional mixed boiling: A strategy for critical heat flux enhancement

To improve the critical heat flux (CHF) in boiling transfer, an idea of triggering three-dimensional mixed was proposed, and corresponding surface with extended thin film (ETFS) designed by adding a structure on plain (PS). With ethanol as working fluid, experiments were conducted to explore transfer CHF enhancement mechanisms ETFS. The results demonstrate that ETFS induces spatially uneven temperatures surface, which triggered mixing spatial dimension—the coexistence nucleate boiling—leading significant enhancement. Nucleate falling liquid along is key stabilizing temperature during formation dry spots base surface. Compared PS traditional pin–fin increased approximately 110% 45%, respectively. Analysis indicated mutual interference between effectively inhibits deterioration caused deactivation nucleating points. Through decoupling analysis process boiling, it shown at heights 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0 mm, contributions total are 12%, 64%, 37%, 24%, respectively, indicating optimal height 4.0 mm for maximum performance. This novel not only improves CHF, but also reduces design costs, offering valuable guidance radiator purposes.
